It is funny how tables turn in life, nature has really made our
lives worse, funny, extremely easy and despicable over time. Just few centuries
ago, physical space dominated various sets of work. We can now execute tasks
remotely from our beds and change the numbers on our receipts. Before the
invention of an x ray machine and the discovery of antibiotics, to treat a sick
person was cumbersome. Centuries later, digital applications closed the gap,
small handheld devices can connect a woman and her physician virtually during
pregnancy to avert any unforeseen ordeal that may arise to the mother and the
child. Imagine having this technology in the 18th century, to say the least we
have done a pretty good job in transmuting our lives as a race.
In most habitable continents, physicians can now do brain
surgeries and other complicated human health restoration practices that
hippocrates did not even dream of(hypothetically).Whenever I ponder on this
marvelous medicine milestone , I usually wonder what did we give mother nature to get
so much back. Perhaps the saying that goes “ whenever you give something to
nature it always gives back” works eventually. Millennials now can access
structured and unstructured data which they can not handle constructively. At
the moment , we are digitally connected than ever before and possessing
knowledge at our fingertips . However, we are less aware of our natural
world, even animals beat us on this: we are more obese and overweight
despite of the vast knowledge collected in agriculture and nutrition.
We are not attached to nature like our ancestors who lived centuries
before us. Relatively, the digital age has taken away our sense of humility and
critical thinking, we rely so much on what we hear, read, and google than what
our minds and natural sense can comprehend . Only a small fraction of the world
population does the entire world’s innovation, creativity, discovery, writing
and opinion giving. Despite the modern age to have transformed human beings
life dimensions, we have remained to be totally ignorant than ever before in
the course of human life. It is a very huge and controversial remark which can
be substantiated. The World Health Organization (WHO) shows that, there are
1.13 doctors for every 1,000 persons globally and 4.5 for every 300,000
Tanzanians. It is clearly there are less medical practitioners than musicians
and athletes (who currently do not work hard to stop the physical and
psychological warfare waged upon mere mortals).
Abraham Bell, Martin Cooper, Philippe Kahn, George Hurst and Steve
Jobs are the few men in the world, who brought their minds together and
contributed to the rise of the modern digital mobile phones models.
Consequently, it is forecasted for mobile phones users to reach 4.93 billion
globally ( Number of Mobile phone user in the world 2013-2019 in
billions, retrieved from www.statistica.com) thus Tanzania has more than 20
million mobile phone users (www.tcra.go.tz) with these big numbers, what
constructive phenomenon has the mobile phone users community contributed to
make the world and Tanzania in particular a better place( leave the money
making and connectivity agenda out the equation). We are no longer in the
face to face battle agesand crude technology. We are living in the
psychological and physical warfare age waged upon the weak and coward. These
days being ignorant is a virtue : video vixens, rappers, youtubers, instagram
kings who literally do not have any solid background on various fields
contribute to the pool of knowledge , they shape people’s opinions and
swaying the mass with flying colors. This is the modern world driven by
millenials, I wonder did the modernization of our world begot anything pure
that we can be proud of, that makes our souls less sinful, minds smarter and
our bodies healthy.
