DIRTY DAR ES SALAAM

Its is a norm, custom and tradition for human beings to be in a sanitary manner for believers in the holy writings is urged. Living in a clean house, putting on clean clothes, and behaving in sanitary fashion triggers a habit that entails to safe environment and conform to the order.  We live a world surrounded by many things natural and man made, in a wholesome it can be referred to as the environment, which is the surroundings and  everything that affect an organism during its lifetime. Geographically Tanzania is endowed will a good natural beauty, in most regions, even in Dar  Es Salaam one of the busiest cities and with higher population which is overwhelming its resources. The term dirty refers to unwanted material, or unclean condition which is contaminated whereby Dar es salaam which accommodates more than 4 million people in its three districts has failed to handle the solid waste, and liquid which pose a threat, which are un sorted with variety of contamination as is discarded randomly throughout the city, streets, and households. Dirty dare es salaam I may refer to it because, garbage, sewage, effluents of several kinds being located in numerous areas in the city,  pollute the environment  year to year  the un attended waste, which has poor collection management, poor drainage system, poor planning of settlements,  are the setbacks which makes Dar Es salaam, a city that’s dirty regardless of its civilization.

Dar es salaam is well known for its tall buildings and centralization of vital organizations, companies and government activities that, makes it prominent and depended on and it’s the region which generates more waste nationwide .  The 4 million humans Living in the three districts demand clean water, fresh air, and a healthy environment that is necessary for a good life to nourish,  apparently few areas access that, I will enlighten the state of pollution exhibited in Mwana nyamala, which house thousands in its small scale land which unplanned settlement is growing by number, and more people swamping in. less infrastructures supporting their live hood,  no planned roads, and housing, more importantly no waste management, in which is generated every second whereby only ilala is said to generate more than a thousand tones of solid waste only quarter of that is collected most of it ends ups in a gutter, bushes and trashed away. This is due to the fact that the designated landfill Pugu kinyamwezi which is miles away placing the congestion on the table the drivers are compelled to divert their route and save time and tedious hours of travelling to collect waste, which is piled up daily as environmentalist say; more people more waste generation,  associating Mwananyamala Kwa ally maua, mtogole, piles of waste unsorted allocated beside households, a flow of sewage channeled through the streets with a stinky smell, contaminated with waterborne diseases. Proves the discipline theory.

Its commonly renowned in rainy seasons for residents in shabby settlements like mwananyamala, mbagala, sinza, and gongo la mboto to channel their effluents so that its swept away by rainwater,  this habit is carried out year to year the residents don’t take appropriate environmental friendly measured and suck their cesspit away, it is their households structure restricting sanitation manner to take the lead, they say old habits die hard. In 2008 Forbes ranked dare es salaam 12th city which is dirty worldwide which entails to  Most of the dwellers in the areas like tandale  commonly known for co-existing with waste tend to care for their families, children growing in shabby, polluted, dogma centered life in which they carry the habits to their adulthood, shaped into discarding waste when they see fit, less caring to be a part  in waste management  components ; Generation Sorting Collection Transportation Disposal. Who can blame them, parents never cared. Now when the world  exercise cutting edge tech, NASA making exploration in space, chlorella is torturing dar es salaam, hundreds have been hospitalized several died all in the name of poor sanitation which is chronic and existing for years.

There’s a notion that the degree of a nation development can traced on hygiene, the nation and the region has failed to change peoples attitude and save the environment, and our health. Comparing  waste generation Records which shows that Mwanza municipal generates 518 tones, in which  managed to collect 296, moshi  generates 300 tones collects 290, when Ilala is compared it generates 1000 tones and collects 500 only which sometimes doesn’t end up in a landfill,  this shows the city generates a significant amount of waste, which it cannot treat.

Basically the municipal should enact strict laws on waste disposal as i have bear witness many people along the main roads in the city throwing plastic bags and plastic bottles when they are done with them imposing laws on littering will save our city, which goes hand in hand with supplying equipment which facilitate the laws to be valid, skips,  liquid waste suckers, waste picking trucks, garbage bins, by laws help much in street levels as households residents generate waste if they are properly managed in waste discarding chlorella will be history, the smelly tandale, mbagala, mwananyamala will be no more. However plastic bags which are rampant city wide handed to consumers free even when they buy a commodity wrapped in a box,  responsible authorities should enact a law on the use of plastics, the producers and uses should feel the pinch by imposing tax in shipment to discourage the supply and going for the alternative which we abandon,  the baskets were very useful didn’t  pollute the environment and lasted for long, paper bags can replace the plastics bags as they can be disposed safely. However improving drainage systems which are sole causative of sewage flowing randomly housing planning is vital as poor infrastructure lead to poor waste disposal, making dwellers prone to disease induced by pollution, of the environment which give us life . The municipal spend more than 2 billion Tsh in waste Collection which is utterly not successful, and still trash is scattered city wide . making our environment clean, making dar es salaam sanitary is for the sake of the next generation coming as the native American  proverb say’’ we do not inherit earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children ‘’
